The only other things you need to know is you have to go into the ini files and fix the aim acceleration manually, and if you turn off vsync the game needs to be capped around 120-140 or you're gonna start speeding around like Sanic. But with all this the game is as stable and vanilla a first timer should need. That's about all I recommend, I only use a couple other mods, one that removes the level cap, allows play after the main quest finishes, ect. It helps you avoid fucking with console commands and ini files to make your viewmodel and field of view better. Mod Config Menu is essential for mods like FOV Slider, which also requires the JIP mod from above. Ammo type usage is more important than sheer DPS most of the time. It makes them a little more powerful overall, but not enough to break balance.

WRP is a little fussy though, if you notice weapon textures fucking up, just get rid of it, it's not worth fighting. And trust me, crafting ammo is extremely worthwhile.įallout Character Overhaul and Weapon Retexture Project is all I feel the game needs, environmental mods tend to make everything look strange. YUP Patch is highly recommended for the additional fixes it offers, JIP and JIP Improved Recipes make all crafting menu interactions much more efficient. These will help fix stuttering and crashing. Then New Vegas Tick Fix, New Vegas Anti Crash and New Vegas 4gb Patch. Unless you want to configure settings, you'll use the normal launcher for that. New Vegas Script Extender, first and foremost, it's the most essential mod, and you'll use it to launch the game proper from now on. Then the rest handles itself, you just have to install it in the mods tab.Īdvanced modders tend to use other managers because they offer more indepth configuration, but this is a bare bones guide here, I'm very picky and sparse with my modding. When you download mods from the site, there's a button to download via mod manager, and it'll pop up and ask you to choose Vortex.
You just tell it where New Vegas is installed and it will make everything much smoother. Vortex Mod Manager handles pretty much everything for you, though some mods encourage or require manual install, it's usually braindead simple.
